Who wouldn’t want to learn tube riveting, a jewelry making cold connection technique, from Helen Driggs? Driggs is a wonderful metalsmith, artist and also happens to be the Senior Editor at Lapidary Journal.

Driggs has a YouTube video on tube riveting — “Metalsmith Essentials: Riveting & Cold Connections“, a high quality visual demonstration of the process.

Although the video omits some of the pre-riveting tasks such as cutting a piece of tubing, the video covers the essentials of tube riveting, using a short piece of tubing to connect two pieces of metal.  She covers drilling pilot holes, flaring the tubing, and most valuable in my opinion, how to cut the tube to an optimal length for finishing the rivet.

Driggs also provides a few tips on metals, tools and some safety measures to take while riveting.
